Fishing Lake Mission Viejo
Current Fishing Conditions – Updated June 17, 2026
Fish stocking is currently suspended due to golden algae conditions impacting fish survivability.
Early this Spring, before conditions deteriorated, over 1000 pounds of catfish and 750 individual bluegills were stocked, yielding several months of successful fishing. The Lake Biologist continues to test golden algae levels and when conditions improve will resume fish stocking. Because Golden algae do not always behave the same way year after year, it is difficult to predict when conditions will change.
Members will be advised of any future stocking dates via Lake’s newsletter, Lake Life emails, social media, and on LakeMissionViejo.org.
Fishing and algae conditions have no impact on the use of the lake for swimming or boating activities. Lake water is tested daily to ensure the water meets and exceeds all standards for swimming safety.
Fishing Rules
- 15-foot rule, no casting within 15’ of docks, boats, swim lines and the shore (except in the designated fishing area)
- No fishing in the marina or swimming areas
- No live bait other than worms
- One fishing rod per person
- No more than 4 fish in possession per angler
- Each angler must have their own stringer
- Guests MUST have a fishing pass in their possession
- Catch & Release of fish (other than trout) is allowed
- Angler must display member or guess pass while engaged in fishing
Violations are enforced and subject to fine(s).
The Lake Is Open For Fishing At 8am Every Day but Christmas Day
- Fishing is always free for member
- Guests must be accompanied by members while visiting LMV
- 5 passenger Gregor and 2 passenger Tracker fishing boats are available for rent at the Boat Rental Shop
