"Funky, cool and bad," is how ROBERT CRAY describes his latest album, That’s What I Heard, released February 28. “I thought if we could get this thing that Sam Cooke used to have, the kind of sound that early Sam Cooke records had, that we could pull this off,” says producer Steve Jordan.

"Robert is just a great person besides being an extraordinary talent," adds Jordan. "People gravitate to his guitar playing first, but I think he's one of the best singers I've heard in my life. Not only because of his singing ability, but his interpretations. He's such an honest soul in my opinion."

Over the past four decades, Cray has created a sound that rises from American roots, blues, soul and R&B, with five Grammy wins, 20 acclaimed studio albums and a bundle of live albums that punctuate the Blues Hall of Famer’s career. On That's What I Heard, Robert celebrates the music of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby "Blue" Bland, The Sensational Nightingales and more, alongside four newly written songs.

Robert's band features Richard Cousins on bass, Dover Weinberg on keys, Terence F. Clark on drums, and Steve Jordan, drums and percussion.

Also Appearing: STOLEN 58's

The STOLEN 58’s trio leans heavily into the North Mississippi Hill country blues, distilling the tradition’s raw immediacy into something akin to an update. The 58s’ unvarnished, fiery performances rely on both the push and pull with an audience, and with its reinterpretation of the genre’s founding documents.

With blistering, soulful vocals from acclaimed veteran singer, guitarist, and songwriter Jerry O'Sullivan—the man who wrote "Pomona Queen," inspiring the Last Name Brewing's flagship lager—wailing harmonica from gifted, longtime L.A. bluesman Jeff Masters, and inspired drums and percussion from Steve Chizar and his self-made bamboo drum kit, the band's live shows have been winning raves and new fans everywhere they've traveled over the two years since their formation.
